Don't get SCAMMED!! Beware of the 8GB nano fakes! If you see prices for less than $45.00 for a 4GB or $60.00 for a 8GB nano Mp4 Player then chances are,, you are not getting what you think. Memory size can easily be faked from 1GB to 8GB and you will never know it until loading a couple hundred songs and then your directory will not access them.

Many of these come from China and are also being sold dirt cheap to unsuspecting U.S. buyers. .

This can also be done with smaller flash memory to make 1GB, 2GB and 4GB compressed drives.

Be sure to look in the specifications for descriptions like this:

Capacity

8GB* flash drive (act as a 8GB USB flash drive for storing data files)

Protects private information by self-defined password

Holds up to 2,000 songs in 128-Kbps AAC format

Holds up to 25,000 photos

Stores data via USB flash drive

First GB playable & recordable

* This is a compressed 8GB flash drive, the 8GB capacity is for storing data files only; the actual playable and recordable capacity is 1gb.

They might put this in the specifications so that they are representing the product truthfully. This add was for an 8GB nano compressed drive unit.

If they represent the product this way then they are not trying to cover it up, but many people do not read all of the details, and this is generally not in the headlines of the add. They will have smaller size flash memory and are compressed to make it 8GB, but they do not have the insides glued in and the screws covered up, and can be very useful as a flash drive as long as you are comfortable with having access to 1GB of the files from the unit's menu.

They come apart ok and can be serviced. They are stable when moving or deleting files and cost much less than ones that are true to size. Just be sure that this is what you want before buying, make sure they are giving you this information, or it will likely be the type described below and check out the warranty they offer.

The true to size MP3 MP4 player 8GB nano copies are 8GB, they are made by stacking two 4GB flash memory, you can fill the drive and access every file from the units menu even 4 or more sub folders deep just like your hard drive. I have also taken them apart and found that they are true to size see: 8GB nano alternatives.

I purchased some advertised as 8GB nano copy and took them apart, the memory chip was 1GB compressed to 8GB, it works as an 8GB flash drive but only less than 500MB will be useful from the units menu function. You can have 2000 song on it and only 80 are able to be accessed through the menu. The files corrupt easily and to be honest you get what you pay for. You can even format the drive and it will still show 8GB unless a disk utility is used to uncompress it. They do the same thing and call them 4GB.

Some sellers are blatantly fraudulent in the description and will lead you to believe that they truly have 8GB flash memory. This type is explained in the section below with pictures.

Are you sure that your item is being shipped from USA or is your item going to be drop shipped from China. Avoid delays which could allow your item to be held at international borders by customs and delay shipping time. Ask Sellers if the item is being shipped from the USA.

Here are some ways to tell the difference:

Notice in the left picture the silver one has two of the larger chips, this is the flash memory, two 4GB stacked is how 8GB are made. There are 8GB flash memory chips being made now, soon they will be 8GB available with one chip. Then two 8Gb will stack to make a 16GB unit.

However the green one has only one chip and the number on the chip matched a 1GB unit that I also took apart. The back of the green one also has 8GB printed on it, the black one has a sticker. Also do you see the small white thin covers, those glue on to the top and bottom of the green one and hide the screws.

They go to great lengths to conceal the truth, see the black gob of glue on the green one, there is also double stick tape inside. They are almost impossible to take apart without destroying them. You probably would not want to take yours apart, unless you don't want it any more.

Notice the right picture, the switch on the black one is larger and sturdy. The top and bottom caps have supports on the black one also.

Also notice the center picture has QC labels on the inside, they are also on the back of the black one, they are not on the green one anywhere, and the black one slides right out when the screws are loosed.

You can see the damage that was done in taking apart the 8GB nano fake green one. The green one would be difficult to repair. Anyplace that sold you the green one probably wouldn't have a warranty more than 7 days.

The black 8GB nano copy slid right out and went back together just as easy. Obviously a service job would be easier on the black one. And the factory has a 1 year replacement warranty against factory defects.
